Short Blog. Beach Day.

Tuesday February 25 was definitely a summer day-- high 24C (up 5C from yesterday).

We went to the nearby Salamanca Market in the late morning to pick up some provisions for dinner.  We were hoping the entertaining fish guy would be there, but he wasn't around.  We bought some chicken instead.

On the way back to the apartment, we passed a fruit stand that always has fresh strawberries outside.  The strawberries have been great and plentiful this season.

Strawberries galore
I decided I would just take a few pictures for the blog, as we made our way down to the beach.

Car graffiti on a nearby street we walk down every day

Small bar that is always busy--- lots of vermouth (vermut)
Peering inside

Monkey House- whatever that is
We deked up a street to take a photo of the Teatro Cervantes, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year.
Opened in 1870
We walked through Plaza de la Merced, passing Picasso's birth place on the Plaza.  Lots of people out in the sun.

Corner building is where Picasso was born

We walked under that small tunnel-- in the background is The Alcazaba
The park area is lovely to walk through
We passed an interesting building called the Noble Hospital.  It was founded using a bequest of Dr. Joseph William Noble, an English doctor, the Mayor of Leicester (1841-59) and a Member of Parliament in Great Britain.  He died in Málaga when he was on holiday in 1861 during a cholera outbreak.  His daughters decided to use part of their inheritance to build an additional hospital in Málaga where seamen of difference nationalities that arrived at the port could be treated, as well as local residents of Malagueta (the beach neighbourhood).  In 1870, the Municipal Charity Committee took over the building.  It is currently used to house various municipal offices.

Still the odd horse and carriage on the streets
The beach was definitely a lot busier than yesterday.  Most of the restaurants on the beach were open, there were lots of people sunning themselves and wearing shorts and bathing suits.  A few more people were in the water.

Beach lounge chairs for rent.

We saw two scuba divers in the water
We brought a towel--- getting some rays

The water was a lot warmer than yesterday-- kinda wish I had worn my bathing suit.

More people sunning themselves

Very strange clouds looking back from the beach

We took some retro pics in black and white.

Lots of birds
Ferry to North Africa

After getting some rays, we went for a late afternoon snack at El Cachalote, where we had been on Saturday.  It was busy and the fish was very fresh.

Great setting

We shared a plate of boquerones fritos a limón (fried anchovies) cooked in lemon-- very tasty

We headed back into the city centre, stopping for a coffee at Bertani, and then picking up some bread and a treat at our favourite bakery near the Central Market.

After some appetizers, Alano made a chicken dinner with potatoes and zucchini.  We drank some more of the lovely bottle of vermouth before having tea and dessert.

Tomorrow (Wednesday February 26) is our last full day in Málaga.  We head to Córdoba on Thursday February 27 for the next week of our Spanish adventure.
