Saturday February 15 was another beautiful sunny day with a high of 19C. We headed out late morning to the wonderful Mercado Atarazanas, which is open from Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. It is a very large market with some great purveyors.

| We started with the olives (aceitunas), a staple of Spanish food |
 |
Lots and lots of olives

There were at least a dozen amazing fish stalls. Very hard to choose!

We walked back to the apartment with our purchases.

We had lunch at the apartment and then headed out to the Soho neighbourhood to go to the Centre de Arte Contempráneo (Centre of Contemporary Art). First stop in the 'hood was Santa Canela for a coffee. They roast their beans on-site.

The Centro de Arte Contemporáno is housed in a converted 1930s wholesale market on the river estuary. Painted entirely white, the museum hosts temporary shows featuring the work of well-known contemporary artists. It also has a small permanent collection. Admission is free.

The first show was Carlos Léon : Tomando distancia (Keeping One's Distance). The exhibit featured a survey of his work during the last decade. Léon, born in 1948 in Ceuta, is a very well known Spanish artist.

The second exhibit was

There was also a room with some pieces from their permanent collection.

After our visit to the Centre, we walked a bit in the neighbourhood. Unfortunately, a number of stores close Saturday afternoon, so not much was open. There is quite a bit of graffiti in the Soho neighbourhood. Some of it is very good.
 |
| Beautiful piece |
 |
| Lots of colour |
As we walked in the sun, I noticed the ad for the Carnaval de Málaga. The basketball tournament (Copa del Rey) ends on Sunday February 16 and the Carnaval starts on February 21.
We crossed the river bed to go to the Cortes Inglés department store where Alano wanted to see if they had any Copa del Rey swag. Unfortunately, the pop up store was pretty decimated. I did get to pose with a very heavy copy of the trophy.
 |
| Glad I had my Raptor Championship hat |
We ran into some street dancers heading up the marble- clad Calle Marqués de Larios (the Main Street of Málaga).
We walked through Constitution Plaza on the way back to the apartment.

We had a rest and then headed out to meet our friends for an evening of traditional flamenco at the Peña Juan Breva at Museo de Arte Flameco, the oldest and most prestigious p
eña (private flamenco club). There are a small number of tables to sit at and there are snacks and beer served before the performance. Most of the people in attendance were Spanish and it was a great audience.

| Two dancers, singer and guitarist |
 |
| The woman dancer was incredible |
 |
| Male dancer was only 20 |
The flamenco show was over by 9:45 p.m. We then went with David and Vicky to eat at
El Otro Tapeo de Cervantes, which has been said to have some of the best tapas in Málaga. Having now eaten there, we have to agree.
 |
| Entrance to the restaurant. We had a quiet table in the back. |
 |
| Specials |
We shared five dishes.
 |
| Duck with apples |
 |
| Cod in a tomato sauce |
 |
| Sea bream with sweet potato and eggplant |
 |
| Wild mushrooms and asparagus |
 |
| Squid with black rice |
 |
| Looking back into the restaurant as we left |
What a great evening. Luckily for us, both the flamenco club and the restaurant were only about a 10 minute walk from our apartment.
